Open and Big Data – Utilization Perspective

Although each government in Europe with their public administration services can be treated as a big data ecosystem, the opportunities of interconnecting, integrating and processing the data on EU level presents a real challenge nowadays. The workshop ‘Knowledge Representation & Representation Learning (KR4L)’ will be held in conjunction with the 24th European Conference on Artificial Intelligence (ECAI 2020). There currently is a perceived disconnect between the areas of Representation Learning (RL) and Knowledge Representation and Reasoning (KRR). Most of the research is currently concentrated on one area or the other, yet arguably representation learning is central to make use of knowledge representation and reasoning techniques in modern, scalable AI applications.

The 2nd edition of LAMBDA Big Data Analytics Summer School was organized by the LAMBDA consortium partners Institute Mihajlo Pupin (PUPIN), Fraunhofer Institute for Intelligent Analysis and Information Systems (Fraunhofer/IAIS), Institute for Computer Science - University of Bonn (UBO) and Department of Computer Science - University of Oxford (UOXF) on June 16th and June 17th, 2020. Because of the COVID-19, the event took place online. Overall, more than 70 participants joined the online sessions.

As part of the LAMBDA H2020 project (Learning, Applying, Multiplying, Big Data Analytics)[1], a staff exchange was arranged between the Mihajlo Pupin Institute[2] and the University of Oxford[3] in the period from February 3rd to February 14th, 2020. During this time, three PhD students working as Junior Research Assistants at Pupin visited Oxford, UK in order to learn about tools that are being promoted in the project.
